Waffle Flower Zinnia Watercolor Birthday Card
Hello Crafty Friends!
I recently purchased my first Waffle Flower set. I know, I can't believe it either...my FIRST Waffle Flower set?!! I purchased the Zinnia Stamp and die set. For the card today I am using the largest flower, however full disclosure it was the font of the sentiments that really pulled me towards this set. The font is unique and not like font found in other set.
My sons girlfriend asked me to create a birthday card for her moms birthday and this set was screaming to be watercolored, so of course I watercolored. To create the background I used Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigment paper and Aqua Pigments in the colors of Blueberry and Turquoise. While the background was drying I stamped and embossed, using my Misti and Alabaster embossing power the large flower from the set on another piece of Brutus Monroe Aqua Pigment paper . The embossing powder creates a "well" for the watercolor to stay in allowing me to watercolor easier and appear that I can stay in the lines. :)
For the flower I used Grape, Violet, Yellow and Yellow-Green Aqua Pigments. Once the flower was done, I wanted to create a border around the image. To achieve this I used the die to cut a flower out of Hero Arts Pitch Black cardstock twice. The first die cut I lined up with the top part of the flower and adhered it down. The second flower I lined up with the bottom part of the flower and cut it down and adhered it with adhesive. This easy trick gave me a black border around my flower to make it pop a little more off the background.
The last step was adding a sentiment. I choose to emboss the sentiment "Happy Blooming Birthday" from the Brutus Monroe set Rose Border using Alabaster embossing power on a Lawn Fawn Wavy Banner die cut from Hero Arts Pitch Black cardstock. Foam squares are used to adhere the flower and sentiment down to add a bit of dimension to complete the card.
