Hello! I hope you are all having a wonderful week. I am in my last week of school. For those who are new here, I am an 8th grade Middle School U.S. History teacher. Crafting is truly my sanity this time of year! Mama Elephant’s newest release had amazing products to help. Today I am sharing a card I made featuring the new Slimline Scenescape builder die set. I paired it with an older Mama Elephant set, Little Super Hero Agenda stamps and dies and another new release the fun Urban City stamp. I immediately knew I wanted to use “traditional” super hero colors. Lawn Fawn Chili Pepper, Sunflower and Blue Jay were the perfect colors.
I started out by stamping and copic coloring all of the adorable animals from Little Super Hero Agenda using the same red, yellow, blue pallet.
The Slimeline scenescape is very easy to cut out. I love that you don’t have to cut items multiple times, except for the inside where you will attach your critters, stamps or whatever you are using for your scene. There are also options for the sides, you can have it sloped or straight.
To create my city backdrop I head embossed the Urban City stamp on a piece of Blue Jay card stock cut with the scenescape die. Using silver embossing power made the city seem to “glow” on the dark cardstock. To give the panel dimension I cut an additional three panels and glued them all together. Once the scene was set the box was ready to be assembled completely.
Assembling the box is very simple. I show each step in the video linked below. The only thing left is the fun part, why we are all here for the slimline scenescape, the decorating!! I used clear acetate cut into thin strips to make it appear as if my super hero’s are flying through the city. To give the hero’s more of a clean look from the back I sandwiched the acetate between the copic colored image and a white image cut using the die for that hero. This also gave the hero more stability on the acetate. I found the easiest way to add the hero on the acetate strip was to glue it in place and then flip the box over to cut off the extra on the bottom.
I love the fun whimsical look of this card. It was really fun to create a card that was “out of the box” haha yep I did that. Seriously, if you are in a creative rut I suggest creating. a different size card, interactive or box card such as this one. Mama Elephant also has a fun rainbow add on for this set. I cannot wait to see what else they come up with in future releases.
Have a wonderful crafty day!
